Winter Red Winners! | Vine Wine

Winter Red Winners!

The weather outside may be frightful but the wines at our Winter Wine Tasting were delightful. We welcomed customers old and new to Fivehead on Wednesday 9th November and how wonderful to see so many of you after the difficulties of the last couple of years. Sophie provided some delicious food to accompany the array of wines on offer – lots of empty bowls showed much appreciation!

With Winter now well and truly upon us, what better time than to enjoy some truly splendid wines and there were some outstanding popular choices at the wine tasting which I thought would be worth sharing with all of you.  As always, I endeavour to keep prices as low as I can with all the added complications of increased fuel costs, packaging and Brexit red tape.

If you are looking to stock up your cellar or wine rack this Winter then why not give these a try?

Firstly Carignan / Grenache, Les Bêtes Rousses from the south of France comes in at a very reasonable £8.20 a bottle. This easy going wine is rounded and balanced and is great choice for a cheeky mid-week supper.

Apassitivo Primitivo, Paolo Leo from Puglia, Italy is £11.20 and is the perfect accompaniment to  a BBQ, mature cheeses or roast ham. Paolo Leo was born into a family where producing wine was an inevitable legacy. This Primitivo from Puglia has lots of upfront full red and black fruit flavours and is definitely a wine that will give you a big hug!  Just perfect for a chilly Winter evening.  The Appasimento method is only suitable for regions with excellent climates bringing with it a welcome touch of warmth to our colder climates.

Côte du Rhône Villages Seguret ‘Les Coteaux Schisteux’ is priced at £15.20.  This classic Rhône has layers of flavour and great balance and length.  This proved to be the most popular red at the Winter Wine Tasting and all those discerning palates can’t be wrong!  This opulent wine is a great match for big hearty casseroles such as lamb tagine or a beef stew or match with a platter of mature hard cheeses.

Finally Bourgogne Rouge, Domaine Masse from Burgundy in France at £16.90 which is the perfect red to go with your Christmas turkey or goose. With a superb complexity and depth, this wine is beautiful with an open Pinot Noir nose.

An excellent round up of some particularly popular reds at our Winter wine tasting. Do give them a go and let us know your thoughts.
