Valdevina Malbec, La Riojana, Cuyo, La Rioja

Viña Riojanas is the principle producer in La Rioja province, in the North of the country. This co-operative was founded in 1940 and currently boasts 451 members. It owns 3,682 hectares of vineyard, and farms a further 1,106. Over 1,000 hectares are certified organic, with most of the rest to follow. The vineyards are in the Famatina Valley and are located at between 1,000 and 1,400m, ameliorating the heat. Deep coloured with flavours of dark berry fruits, hints of violet and a chocolat note. The tannins are quite supple and very ripe.
