Daniel Fries “Dom” Pinot Noir 2022, Mosel

While cork dorks have long appreciated the potential brilliance of German Pinot Noir (typically referred to as Spätburgunder), it is not something you're likely to find in your local supermarket. This is a stellar example.  Grapes from Daniel's best parcel in the uppermost part of the Domgarten vineyard, located 100 meters above the Moselle.  It is on the cool, windy eastern flank of the slope where Daniel Fries' father planted Pinot Noir in the ochre-coloured slate terraces over 20 years ago.  A real "iron fist in a velvet glove", it is laden with exuberant black cherry, rose petal, mushroom and forest floor aromas.  The palate is concentrated and structured but absolutely silken with incredible balance between ripe fruit and acidity.  The finish goes on and on.  We recommend decanting this.  40% whole bunch, 40% new French oak. ABV 13%
